May Reading Wrap-Up

Favorite of the Month: The Secret She Keeps by Michael Robotham

This book was so good! A thriller told from the perspective of two mothers, Agathe and Megan. Set in London, these two mothers run two completely different lives. Megan is famous "mommy blogger" who is married to Jack with two kids and another one on the way. Their life and marriage looks perfect on the outside. Agathe is pregnant and unmarried and spends her time working at a grocery store. These two mothers meet and soon become friends. What follow is simply on-the-edge-of-your-seat thrilling!

I honestly loved this book and if you're looking for a thriller similar to The Girl on the Train, this is your jam.

I gave this book a 5 out of 5 stars on Goodreads.

The Wisdom of Yoga by Stephen Cope

As my physical yoga practice continues to grow, I'm also working to grow my spiritual and knowledgable yoga practice as well. Michael bought this book for my 26th birthday and it sat on my bookshelf for a whole year before I ever picked it up. I'm glad I finally decided to dive into this book. Cope does an amazing job of blending contemporary life with the ancient wisdom of yogic tradition. He surpasses the physical portion of yoga tradition and focuses on the unlocking the spiritual side by exploring Pantajali's Yoga Sutras. I learned so much from this book. If yoga's your thing and you're looking to grow your knowledge, this book is for you.

Gone Missing (Kate Burkholder #4) by Linda Castillo

As I'm sure you remember from my April Reading Wrap-Up post, I started reading a series featuring a female lead named Kate Burkholder. Burkholder is the Chief of Police in the Amish/English town of Painter's Mill, Ohio. In the past three installments she has been invesigating heinous crimes in her home town. In this fourth installment, Burkholder (alongside her friend John Tomasetti) begins investigating the disappearances of Amish teens and when a body turns up, the case soon turns into a murder investigation.

I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. This is the second best book in the series, after the first book Sworn to Silence.

Her Last Breath (Kate Burkholder #5) by Linda Castillo

Kate Burkholder and John Tomasetti are back at it again in the fifth installment of this series. After a buggy accident that killed a father and his two children turns into a hit and run, it's up to Burkholder and Tomasetti to figure out who would want to harm this Amish family. This particular crime hits home for Burkholder as her childhood best friend is the widow of the deceased.

This was definitely the second best book in this series and for some reason, I'm still hooked!

I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads.

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas (A Court of Thorns and Roses #3.1)

I read the first three books of the The Court of Thorns and Roses series last summer while traveling in Ecuador at my friend Kirsty's suggestion. This series is vastly different than what I'm used to and it's the first fantasy series that I really read, so when Maas came out with the next installment I had to read it. I am in love with the characters in this series. Maas does a great job with character development and painting a beautiful picture. I'm not going to go into too many details here, in case you want to read the series (which I highly suggest you do!) Here's some info on the series. Definitely check it out.

I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads.

Titles that I read but just didn't love:

Perfectly Imperfect: The Art and Soul of Yoga Practice by Baron Baptiste

I read this book for a Yoga Book Club that I'm a part of through the Find What Feels Good community.

I honestly don't have much to say about this book because I really didn't love it. I didn't love the way the author wrote and his word choice kind of bugged me, but I did learn some things about yoga.

I gave this book a 3 out of 5 stars on Goodreads.

Long Lost (Kate Burkholder #4.5) by Linda Castillo

This was a short story installment in the Kate Burkholder series that I'm really into right now but I'm just not sure why it exists. Harsh, I know. But I didn't love it at all and that's that.

I gave this book a 1 out of 5 stars on Goodreads.

That's what I read in the month of May! I'm reading some really great books right now so make sure you stick around for my June Reading Wrap-up!

For the love of books,

Emily
